Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne to rejoin Turkish football with move to Amedspor

Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne is set to make his return to Turkish football after agreeing to join Amedspor.

The 33-year-old is due to undergo a medical in Istanbul on Monday, with a formal contract signing scheduled for Tuesday in Diyarbakır.

Diagne, a seasoned forward with a long-standing history in the Turkish league, brings a wealth of experience to Amedspor as the club looks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the upcoming campaign. This move marks the fourth chapter of his career in Türkiye, having previously played for Kasımpaşa, Galatasaray, and Fatih Karagümrük.

The Senegal international initially made his mark in Turkey with Kasımpaşa between 2017 and 2019, where his prolific scoring drew the attention of bigger clubs.

That form earned him a move to Galatasaray, where he continued to find the net between 2019 and 2022. His most recent Turkish club stint was with Karagümrük during the 2022–2023 season.

Following his time in Türkiye, Diagne ventured into the Saudi First Division, where he spent the past two seasons. Despite a productive spell at Al-Qadsiah during the 2023–2024 campaign, followed by a short stint at Neom SC in 2024–2025, his performances were not enough to secure a contract renewal as his club transitioned to the top tier of Saudi football.

In his final season in Saudi Arabia, Diagne recorded an impressive 14 goals and five assists across 22 matches. However, despite his strong output, the newly promoted Saudi Pro League side opted against retaining him. As a result,

Diagne has been available on a free transfer, giving Amedspor the opportunity to add a player of significant pedigree without a transfer fee.

Amedspor will be hoping that Diagne’s return to familiar territory helps reignite the form that once made him one of the league’s most feared attackers. His physical presence, aerial strength, and poaching instincts could prove to be invaluable for a side looking to sharpen its edge in front of goal.

The Turkish lower leagues have become increasingly competitive, and Amedspor’s recruitment of a player with top-flight experience could be a statement of intent.

While the club has not disclosed the duration of the contract, expectations are high that Diagne’s presence will provide leadership both on and off the pitch.

The striker’s journey from European football to the Middle East and back again highlights the often unpredictable paths of professional footballers.

Now, with a return to a league where he has previously thrived, Diagne will aim to not only replicate his earlier successes but also reestablish himself as a dependable frontman.

With the medical examination set to take place in Istanbul and the contract signing in Diyarbakır shortly after, all eyes will be on how swiftly Diagne integrates into Amedspor’s system. The coming season could be a pivotal one for both player and club.
