Assane Diao has expressed his delight at the way he has settled into life at Como 1907, following a remarkable introduction to Serie A that has seen the teenage forward emerge as a standout performer.
The 19-year-old Senegalese striker joined the Lombardy club from Real Betis during the winter transfer window and wasted no time in making an impact.
In just 15 league appearances, Diao has found the net eight times and registered one assist, marking a seamless adaptation to Italian football.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Diao shared his thoughts on his transition and early success.
“I started very well, the club and I are satisfied. I like the team, our way of playing and our family spirit, and it shows on the pitch. It gives us a lot of confidence,” he said.
His performance has been a major boost for Como, who are aiming to solidify their presence in the top flight.
Diao’s speed, instinct, and intelligence have added a new dimension to the team’s attacking options, with his maturity on and off the pitch drawing attention well beyond Italy.
Reflecting on his own attributes, the young forward described himself in three concise words: “If I had to choose three words to describe myself, I would say fast, goal-scoring and intelligent.”
Trained in Spain, Diao credits his footballing inspiration to one of the game’s greats. “Like everyone else, I would say Messi. I grew up watching his matches,” he admitted, revealing a dream shared by many in his generation — to one day play alongside the Argentine legend.
His contentment extends beyond football. Diao is enjoying life in Como, both for its serenity and charm.
“It’s a very peaceful and beautiful city. I’m really happy to be here,” he said, underlining the balance he has found in his personal and professional life.
From an early age, Diao’s path has been clear. “I really don’t know what to say. Ever since I was little, I’ve been saying I want to be a footballer,” he confessed.
Now, at just 19, he is living that dream—one goal, one game, and one step at a time.
With form, confidence, and ambition on his side, Assane Diao looks set to leave an even greater mark on Serie A in the months to come.
