Senegalese international Mamadou Loum Ndiaye has completed a move to Spanish second division side Real Sporting Gijón, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

The 28-year-old midfielder arrives in Asturias after a single season with Portuguese outfit Arouca, marking the latest step in a career that has seen him feature for multiple European clubs.

His switch to Gijón makes this the seventh team of his professional journey and signals a return to Spanish football.

Loum, who previously played for FC Porto, brings with him considerable top-flight experience and a reputation as a strong, combative presence in midfield.

His ability to break up play, cover ground effectively and contribute in both defensive and transitional phases has earned him recognition at both club and international levels.

Sporting Gijón view Loum’s signing as a key addition to their squad as they push for promotion from the Segunda División.

His arrival adds depth and leadership to the midfield, with the club confident that his physicality, tactical understanding and professionalism will prove invaluable over the coming seasons.

For Loum, the move represents an opportunity to relaunch his career in Spain, a country where he previously had a brief spell earlier in his playing days.

The Senegalese international has enjoyed stints across Europe, including time in Portugal’s Primeira Liga and other competitive leagues, which have shaped him into a seasoned professional capable of adapting to different footballing environments.

His career began in his homeland before moving to Portugal, where he rose to prominence at Moreirense, earning a transfer to FC Porto.

While with the Portuguese giants, he gained experience in domestic title races and European competition, later going on to feature for other clubs through loan and permanent deals.

Last season at Arouca, Loum was a consistent performer, helping the team compete in a challenging league campaign.

Sporting Gijón’s decision to secure his services on a long-term deal underlines their ambition to assemble a squad capable of challenging for a place in La Liga. Loum’s leadership qualities and experience in high-pressure matches are expected to play a crucial role in guiding the younger members of the team.

Internationally, Loum has represented Senegal, contributing to the national team setup in competitive fixtures and tournaments.

His time with the Teranga Lions has added to his understanding of the game at the highest level, further enhancing the qualities he brings to his new club.

As preparations for the new season intensify, Loum is expected to join training immediately, giving him time to integrate with his teammates and adapt to the club’s style of play before the league campaign gathers pace.

Fans at El Molinón will be eager to see how the experienced midfielder fits into the squad and whether his presence can help drive the team towards their promotion goals.

For both Sporting Gijón and Mamadou Loum Ndiaye, this move marks the beginning of an important chapter – one that could prove decisive for the club’s ambitions and the player’s career trajectory.
