Senegalese goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf reflects on challenging start at OGC Nice

Yehvann Diouf has opened up about his demanding start to life at OGC Nice, admitting his first few months have been tougher than expected.

The Senegalese international goalkeeper, who joined from Stade de Reims during the summer transfer window, faced early criticism but has since shown encouraging signs of improvement, including a crucial penalty save against Lyon.

Speaking on Rothen s’enflamme on Thursday, Diouf shared his honest reflections on adapting to a new environment. “I think it was my first real transfer as a footballer,” he said.

“It was truly the first time I had left behind everything I knew, especially to join a club that plays in Europe, with so many changes.”

The 25-year-old explained that the transition involved challenges both on and off the pitch. “I have a wife and children, so I also have to find my feet on the family front,” he noted.

“Everything happened very quickly, especially with the two Champions League matches against SL Benfica. We had a more accelerated preseason than usual.”

Despite the difficult start, Diouf expressed his determination to adjust and improve. “We might have some questions, but we’re here and we’re trying to adapt as best and as quickly as possible,” he said. “We’re working to put ourselves in the best possible conditions and try to perform well.”

He also acknowledged that his early struggles were part of the learning process. “We know that things don’t always go as planned,” he continued. “Personally, I hadn’t expected it to turn out like this. But that’s how it is—we have to keep going.”

Diouf’s calm and honest assessment reflects his maturity and resilience as he settles into his new surroundings.

His recent performances have been marked by greater confidence and composure, helping restore belief among fans and teammates alike.

As OGC Nice continue their domestic and European campaigns, Diouf’s form could prove vital in maintaining the club’s ambitions.

His ability to overcome early challenges highlights his professionalism and mental strength, qualities that could soon make him an indispensable figure in Nice’s squad.
