Senegalese goalkeeper Mory Diaw set to join Le Havre after agreement reached

Mory Diaw is poised to return to Ligue 1 with Le Havre, following an agreement between the Senegalese goalkeeper’s current side Clermont and the Normandy-based club, pending final approval from the DNCG.

Diaw, 32, is contracted at Clermont until June 2026 but spent the second half of the season on loan at Rodez in Ligue 2, where he made 11 appearances to regain form after a challenging period at Clermont.

The veteran shot-stopper has already agreed personal terms with Le Havre and will complete his transfer once the club satisfies the DNCG’s financial scrutiny during their upcoming review.

This move follows Clermont’s decision not to renew Diaw’s position as the first-choice keeper. His loan to Rodez provided valuable playing time, and although he had initially fallen down the pecking order at Clermont, the transfer to Le Havre offers a fresh start in the top flight .

Diaw’s reputation precedes him in French football. Since joining Clermont in 2022 from Lausanne Sport on a free transfer, he made 67 appearances up to his loan move, enjoying considerable praise in Ligue 1 for his shot-stopping prowess and his clean sheet stats .

He was notably named “Clermontois de la saison” by fans, posting a remarkable expected goals prevented differential and ranking top in penalty saves

Le Havre’s interest aligns with their objective of reinforcing defensively after being relegated into Ligue 1 (presumably misprint; actually promoted).

The Normandy club is also in the midst of talks with American investment group Blue Crow, known for owning Leganés and scouting other European assets.

These discussions, pending conclusion before the DNCG hearing, could impact their transfer capacity .

At Le Havre, Diaw would reunite with Senegalese centre-back Arouna Sangante—an established figure in their defence—as the club looks to consolidate its position and improve on recent results.

The presence of his compatriot might ease Diaw’s transition and benefit team cohesion.

For the player, the move offers a chance to re-establish himself in France’s top tier, where he has already left a mark. His contract at Clermont provided stability, but limited playing time during the season suggested a change was necessary.

At Le Havre, he will likely compete for the starting role and deliver leadership in goal as they aim to adjust quickly to Ligue 1 standards.

The transfer will only be confirmed once Le Havre’s financial documents receive clearance from the DNCG on Tuesday. With contractual terms agreed and clubs aligned, the final step appears procedural.

If all goes as expected, Diaw will don the goalkeeper’s gloves for Le Havre next season, bringing experience, Senegalese grit, and proven Ligue 1 quality to the club’s ambitions.
