Lazio’s Senegalese forward Boulaye Dia remains a doubt for Saturday’s Serie A encounter against Napoli after sustaining an ankle injury during his side’s recent victory over Monza.
The 27-year-old was forced off early in Lazio’s 2-0 win on Sunday after twisting his right ankle in a challenge with Monza defender Armando Izzo.
While initial reports suggested the injury was not severe, concerns persist over his availability for the upcoming fixture.
Lazio head coach Marco Baroni addressed the situation, emphasizing that the decision to substitute Dia was precautionary.
“Dia has a sprained ankle, it’s not serious, but we took him off as a precaution. Fortunately, the ankle has not swollen,” Baroni stated.
Despite this reassurance, medical examinations are ongoing to determine the extent of the injury and whether the striker will be fit to feature against Napoli.
Should Dia be ruled out, it would be a significant setback for Lazio. The Senegal international has been a pivotal figure for the club this season, contributing 10 goals and four assists in Serie A.
His presence in attack has been instrumental in Lazio’s push for a top-four finish, and his absence could weaken their attacking options against a formidable Napoli side.
Lazio will be hoping for positive news from the medical team in the coming days, with a final decision on Dia’s availability expected before the weekend fixture.
