Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng to depart Angers as loan spell concludes

Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng to depart Angers as loan spell concludes

Angers SCO has confirmed that forward Bamba Dieng will return to FC Lorient following the conclusion of his loan spell, drawing a close to his brief but impactful stint at the club.

The announcement was made during a press conference on Wednesday, during which Angers officials outlined plans for the upcoming season and confirmed the departure of several players.

Dieng is among eight squad members set to leave this summer, with his return to Lorient marking the end of his time at Stade Raymond-Kopa.

Dieng joined Angers on loan from FC Lorient on 30 August 2024. The Senegal international was brought in to bolster the club’s attacking options and made an immediate impression upon his arrival.

He made his debut just two days later against OGC Nice, and quickly followed that performance with a goal in his second match, a crucial equaliser against RC Strasbourg that earned Angers their first point of the campaign.

Throughout the season, Dieng featured in 20 matches for the Ligue 2 outfit, registering five goals and two assists. His contributions were vital during several key fixtures, offering moments of quality and attacking instinct during a challenging campaign for the club.

Despite his efforts, Angers will not extend Dieng’s stay, and the 24-year-old is now set to rejoin Lorient, who have secured promotion and will compete in Ligue 1 next season.

Dieng’s return coincides with Lorient’s preparations for top-flight football, offering the forward another opportunity to prove himself at the highest level of French football.

The club’s decision to part ways with Dieng and seven other out-of-contract players underscores a period of transition at Angers.

As they seek to rebuild and strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, club management appears intent on refreshing their roster and investing in new talent.

Dieng’s departure is expected to be one of several changes this summer as Angers look to reshape the team following a demanding season.

The striker’s performances have not gone unnoticed, and his spell at Angers could serve as a valuable platform as he returns to Lorient with renewed confidence and experience.

While the end of his loan signals the close of his chapter with Angers, Dieng leaves behind a respectable record, having delivered key moments for the club during his time in black and white.

His next challenge will now be with Lorient, as the club prepares to compete among France’s elite in Ligue 1.

As the summer transfer window approaches, both Angers and Lorient will be closely watched for further developments, particularly regarding how Dieng fits into the plans of his parent club in the upcoming campaign.
