Senegalese forward: Aliou Badji departs Red Star as striker becomes free agent

Aliou Badji has officially left Red Star FC, with the Senegalese forward set to become a free agent following the expiration of his contract on 30 June.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Paris-based club in the summer of 2024 after Bordeaux’s relegation to France’s fourth tier, spent a single season at Red Star.

Despite a modest return of seven goals and three assists in 30 Ligue 2 appearances, the club opted not to offer the striker a contract extension.

Badji’s campaign yielded a total of 1,717 minutes on the pitch, though he started only half of the matches in which he featured.

That limited role appears to have played a decisive factor in the club’s choice to part ways with the former Bordeaux and Amiens player.

Having previously played in Sweden, Austria, Turkey, and Egypt, the Senegalese international brings a breadth of experience to the table.

His varied career includes stints at clubs such as Djurgårdens IF, Rapid Vienna, Al Ahly, and MKE Ankaragücü, making him an attractive option for teams seeking a seasoned attacker with international exposure.

Red Star, who have recently been seeking stability in France’s second division, are undergoing a period of restructuring as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

While Badji’s contributions were appreciated, the club has clearly signaled a desire to head in a different direction.

Aliou Badji now finds himself at a career crossroads but is unlikely to remain unattached for long.

His proven ability to adapt to multiple leagues and cultures, coupled with his physical presence and eye for goal, make him a viable target for clubs across Europe and beyond.

As the summer transfer window opens, attention will turn to where the Senegalese forward lands next.

For now, he begins his search for a new challenge, while Red Star FC prepare for life without the striker who, albeit briefly, led their line during a crucial campaign.
