Mamadou Lamine Camara has been crowned the best foreign player in the Moroccan top flight, capping off a season of individual brilliance and team success with RS Berkane.
The 22-year-old Senegalese defensive midfielder played a key role in Berkane’s remarkable 2024–25 campaign, which included clinching the Moroccan league title and lifting the CAF Confederation Cup.
His consistent performances over 37 matches in all competitions, during which he contributed two goals and two assists, earned him widespread acclaim and the prestigious award recognising his impact in the Botola Pro.
Camara’s growing stature has not gone unnoticed in Europe.
While his future remains uncertain, the player is attracting significant interest from several clubs.
Spanish side Villarreal, where fellow Senegal international Pape Gueye currently plies his trade, is understood to have tabled a concrete offer of €7 million for his services.
Berkane president Hakim Benabdallah recently addressed the mounting speculation, confirming that the club is open to discussions but also hoping to retain their standout performer.
“We will discuss renewing Mamadou Lamine Camara’s contract. If he refuses to continue with us, we will present him with the important offers we have recently received, and then we will make a decision that takes into account the interests of the club and the player,” Benabdallah said.
In addition to Villarreal’s interest, French side FC Metz—freshly promoted to Ligue 1—has expressed admiration for Camara, while Turkish giants Galatasaray and Italy’s Atalanta are also monitoring the situation closely.
Camara, a product of the Darou Salam academy, reached a personal milestone this season with his 100th appearance for RS Berkane.
His leadership and tactical intelligence in midfield have made him a linchpin for the Moroccan club and an emerging name on the continent.
His international career is also gaining momentum.
Having recently earned his first cap for Senegal’s senior A team in a friendly against Ireland, Camara is now on the radar of national team coach Pape Thiaw and is expected to be part of Senegal’s long-term plans.
