Senegalese defender Ibrahima Ba joins Sporting CP on five-year deal

Senegalese centre-back Ibrahima Ba has completed a move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The highly-rated defender joins Sporting from fellow Portuguese side Famalicão after a brief period of uncertainty over his future following a failed medical with French club RC Strasbourg.

Ba was initially expected to join Strasbourg last week, but the proposed transfer collapsed after the 21-year-old did not pass his medical examination. Despite the setback, the Senegalese youngster did not have to wait long before securing another opportunity, with Sporting CP moving quickly to finalise a deal for his services.
