Senegal clinched the UFOA A Under-17 Championship title on Monday after a thrilling penalty shootout against Mali, securing a 5-3 win on penalties following a 3-3 draw in regulation time. The Senegalese Lion Cubs, with a stunning comeback, overcame a dominant Mali side to claim the championship in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Mali took control early in the match, scoring first and then doubling their lead before halftime.

The Aiglons appeared set to defend their title, heading into the break with a comfortable advantage and confidence running high.

However, Senegal returned to the pitch with renewed intensity, launching a relentless second-half offensive that saw them battle back and level the score.

The equalizer late in the second half shifted momentum, setting up a nail-biting conclusion as both teams fought for the win.

As regulation time ended with the score tied at 3-3, the game moved to a decisive penalty shootout.

It was here that the Lion Cubs capitalized on a crucial error by Mali, sealing a 5-3 victory and sparking celebrations among the Senegalese squad and fans alike.

Despite their defeat, Mali’s Aiglons didn’t leave the tournament empty-handed, earning recognition through three individual awards.

Goalkeeper Lassine Sinaba was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper, Bakary Simpara claimed the top scorer award, and Seydou Dembele was awarded best player, highlighting Mali’s exceptional talent in this year’s competition.

Senegal’s victory not only demonstrates the team’s resilience but also reflects the strength and growth of the country’s youth football program.

With this triumph, the Lion Cubs have marked themselves as rising talents to watch in African football, and the win serves as a testament to their ability to perform under pressure.
