Senegalese Football Federation Increases Bonus for U-20 Lions to Boost Semi-Final Hopes
The Senegalese Football Federation is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to help the U-20 Lions qualify for the semi-finals of the 19th edition of the CHAN tournament, currently underway in Senegal.
Initially, each player was promised a bonus of one million FCFA if they reached the semi-finals. However, in a bid to further motivate the team, the federation has increased this bonus to 1.5 million FCFA.
The announcement came during a visit by the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Augustin Senghor, who spoke to the players during their final training session on Friday evening. “We have jointly agreed with the authorities to increase the qualification bonus from 1 to 1.5 million FCFA,” Senghor stated. “We hope that we will be able to pay you this bonus after the match against Congo,” he added, rallying the team ahead of their crucial match.
Senegal’s journey to the semi-finals remains uncertain. After two matches, the host nation has only earned one point from a 3-1 loss to Nigeria and a 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast. In order to progress, Senegal will need to defeat Congo and also rely on Ivory Coast losing their match against Nigeria at the Caroline Faye Stadium in Mbour. Both matches will kick off simultaneously at 5 p.m. GMT.
