The AIPS Africa meeting held in Dakar, Senegal, from March 17th to March 21st, marked the one-year anniversary of the establishment of the current office of the national association of sports press in Africa. The meeting, convened under the auspices of Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS WORLD, saw the participation of twelve countries, including Nigeria, which held the presidency, as well as Guinea, Benin, Togo, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, Malawi, Congo, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.
The primary objective of the conclave, which lasted for 72 hours, was to devise strategies for financing AIPS Africa’s activities and enhancing the training of sports journalists across the continent. Additionally, discussions aimed to explore avenues for AIPS Africa’s involvement in the management of major continental sporting events, such as the African Cup of Nations (CAN) and other African championships.
The meeting provided a platform for fruitful deliberations and collaborative efforts to strengthen the role of sports journalism in Africa and foster greater engagement in continental sports management.
