The African Olympians Association (AOA), which unites nearly fifty members from across the continent, is set to convene in Dakar, Senegal on Saturday, April 25, 2015. This meeting, as outlined in a press release, holds significant importance for the organization.
The President of AOA, El Hadji Amadou Dia Bâ, who is also a Senegalese silver medalist from the Seoul Olympics in 1988, highlighted that the gathering has two main purposes:
-
First-ever Meeting of the African Olympians Office: This will be the first time since the establishment of the African office that members will meet in person.
-
Evaluating the Situation: The meeting will allow members to take stock of their current situation in front of the World Olympians President, Joel Bozou from France, who will be assisted by the Secretary General.
Dia Bâ emphasized the importance of African Olympians in the effective functioning of sports across the continent. He noted that, although they play a crucial role, African Olympians need to be better organized to meet their challenges effectively. The goal is to leave no room for oversight to succeed in advancing African sports.
After the conclave, Joel Bozou, the President of the World Olympians Association, is expected to address the general state of the organization worldwide, offering insights and updates on global affairs in Olympism.
