Senegal teenager Bara Sapoko Ndiaye targets AFCON 2027 after whirlwind rise

Bayern Munich midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye says he is determined to build on his remarkable rise by earning a place in Senegal’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric ascent over the past year, progressing from academy football in The Gambia to making his FIFA World Cup debut for Senegal and securing a long-term contract with German giants Bayern Munich.

Ndiaye was one of the surprise inclusions in Senegal’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, having made only four senior appearances for Bayern during the final weeks of last season.

Despite his limited first-team experience, the teenager’s rapid development earned him a place among Senegal’s stars on football’s biggest stage, marking another significant milestone in a career that continues to gather momentum.

With the World Cup now behind him, Ndiaye has set his sights on the next major challenge – breaking into Senegal’s plans for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Competition for places in Senegal’s midfield is expected to remain fierce as the Lions of Teranga prepare for another bid to reclaim the continental crown.

For Ndiaye, however, the focus remains on continuing his development at Bayern while learning from some of the world’s best players.

“I want to learn from all these great players here at Bayern every day and try to help the team,” Ndiaye told CAFOnline after completing his permanent move to the Bundesliga champions.

The teenager also hopes his journey can inspire young footballers back home, particularly those coming through the ranks at Gambinos Stars in The Gambia.

“And I also want to be an example to other young players, like my teammates at Gambinos Stars, and show them that you can make it to one of the biggest teams in the world,” he added.

Having already achieved more than many players do in an entire career, Ndiaye now faces the challenge of turning early promise into long-term success as he looks to establish himself at both club and international level ahead of AFCON 2027.
