Senegal star Sadio Mané opens up on special bond with Cristiano Ronaldo
Senegalese forward Sadio Mané has opened up about his special relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the Portuguese superstar as family rather than just a teammate.
The Al-Nassr attacker revealed that the bond between the two football stars goes beyond their partnership on the pitch, highlighting the mutual respect and affection they have developed since becoming teammates in Saudi Arabia.
Mané disclosed that Ronaldo once approached him after a match and shared an emotional message, expressing gratitude for his contribution towards his ambition of reaching 1,000 career goals.
Recounting the touching conversation, the Senegal international said: “After the match, Cristiano came up to me and said something I will never forget. He said to me: ‘Sadio, I love you, brother. You helped me move closer to my dream of scoring 1,000 goals in my career, and I will always be grateful to you for that.’ He told me that he no longer sees me as just a teammate or a friend, but as his younger brother.
“Honestly, those words meant a great deal to me because I have profound respect for Cristiano. He also told me that he hopes that one day we can visit Senegal together and do something special for the local people through charitable work. That truly touched me deeply.
“Football has given me a lot, but having a genuinely sincere relationship with someone like Cristiano Ronaldo is something I will always cherish. To me, he is more than just a teammate. He is family.”
The two forwards have shared the same dressing room at Al-Nassr since Mané joined the Saudi Arabian club in the summer of 2023, forming an important part of the team’s attacking setup.
Their partnership has brought together Ronaldo’s remarkable goalscoring ability and Mané’s pace, movement and attacking versatility as Al-Nassr continue to compete for domestic and continental honours.
Beyond their contributions on the pitch, Mané’s revelation offers an insight into the personal relationship they have built, with the Senegalese forward particularly touched by Ronaldo’s desire to visit his country and undertake charitable activities together.
For Mané, the relationship represents one of the special experiences football has offered him, describing the Portuguese icon as someone he considers part of his family.
