Former Senegalese international Roger Mendy expressed disappointment with the Senegalese players who refused the call-up for the friendly match against Niger. Mendy sees this refusal as a lack of patriotism and believes that in difficult times, players should be counted on. He suggests that the absent players might have responded differently if Senegal had qualified for the CAN 2013. As the national team prepares for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, the interim coach, Mayacine Mar, has to work with the players available.
