Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has announced Monday, 19 January 2026, as a paid public holiday to celebrate the country’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The declaration comes in the wake of Senegal’s title-winning performance in the AFCON final, a success that triggered jubilant scenes across Dakar and several other major cities as fans poured into the streets to celebrate.

According to the presidency, the decision is intended to give citizens the opportunity to fully take part in nationwide festivities while honouring the national team for their historic achievement on the continental stage.

Senegal’s latest AFCON success further underlines the nation’s growing reputation as a dominant force in African football and represents another significant milestone in the proud history of the Teranga Lions.

While wild celebrations continued throughout the night in Senegal and around the world on Sunday, they are expected to persist for the next 24 hours and for years to come.
