Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has announced Monday, 19 January 2026, as a paid public holiday to celebrate the country’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The declaration comes in the wake of Senegal’s title-winning performance in the AFCON final, a success that triggered jubilant scenes across Dakar and several other major cities as fans poured into the streets to celebrate.
According to the presidency, the decision is intended to give citizens the opportunity to fully take part in nationwide festivities while honouring the national team for their historic achievement on the continental stage.
