Senegal president Bassirou Diomaye Faye hails players after World Cup qualification

Senegal president Bassirou Diomaye Faye has eulogized players following their qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The Taranga Lions confirmed their place for the global showpiece on Tuesday night, inflicting a resounding 4-0 home win over their Mauritania.

The 45-year-old was in attendance when Senegal made light work of their opponent to finish on top of Group B.

Al Nassr star Sadio Mane scored a brace before Iliman Ndiaye and Habibou Mouhamadou Diallo cemented the win for Senegal at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade.

However, President Diomaye Faye has expressed pride following the team’s qualification, while commending players for the commitment and sacrifices made throughout the qualifying series.

“First of all, I would like to express my pride, which I share with all members of the Senegalese people, for the remarkable performance the team has made throughout these qualifiers – both here at home and when we played away. You have shown great selflessness, both in terms of commitment and sacrifice. You not only qualified, but they did so with the respect they deserve,” said the President of the Republic.

Having secured qualification, the president urged the players to exhibit a good performance at the tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Senegal will turn their attention to the World Cup draw slated for December 2025.
