Senegal plans friendlies with Brazil, USA, and African rivals ahead of 2026 World Cup
Senegal will continue fine-tuning their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a series of high-profile friendlies.
After confirming their match against Brazil for the November international break, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has opened talks for further fixtures against the United States and another African side in Dakar.
FSF president Abdoulaye Fall confirmed the developments, stressing the importance of strong preparation ahead of major tournaments.
“We are in discussions for a friendly match against the United States. This forms part of our preparation for the World Cup,” Fall said.
“The match against Brazil is already scheduled, and we would also like to face an African team here in Diamniadio before the AFCON,” .
The confirmed meeting with Brazil promises another exciting chapter in Senegal’s growing reputation on the global stage. The fixture marks the third friendly between the two nations since 2019.
Senegal’s supporters still remember their impressive 4–2 victory over the Seleção in June 2023 in Lisbon under then-coach Aliou Cissé. That result remains one of the country’s most memorable performances against a world football powerhouse.
Senegal’s decision to face Brazil again reflects their ambition to compete regularly against elite opposition.
These encounters not only test the team’s tactical structure but also strengthen player experience at the highest level.
Facing the United States—one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup—would offer another significant test against a fast, physical, and organized side preparing for the same global event.
The FSF also plans to organize a friendly against another African nation before the AFCON.
That game will take place in Dakar, allowing local fans to witness the Lions in action on home soil.
The match will serve as a key opportunity for the team to fine-tune its shape and maintain competitive rhythm before heading to Morocco for the continental tournament.
The 2025 AFCON will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
Senegal aims to enter the tournament as one of the favorites, armed with experience gained from challenging world-class teams.
The federation’s schedule indicates a clear strategy: to expose players to diverse footballing styles while keeping them sharp ahead of both major competitions.
These matches will also help the technical staff evaluate form, fitness, and squad depth.
With World Cup qualifiers and AFCON preparations happening simultaneously, maintaining balance between competitiveness and recovery remains essential.
Senegal’s growing list of friendlies reflects their desire to sustain consistency and build a winning mentality.
The Lions’ blend of talent, leadership, and ambition continues to make them one of Africa’s strongest football nations.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, these strategic matches could define the tone for a team eager to shine on the world stage once again.
