Senegal coach Aliou Cissé has called up Ousseynou Thioune to the national team following the withdrawal of two players in the past 48 hours, marking the midfielder’s return to the Lions squad.
Thioune, who plays for Sochaux in Ligue 2, last represented Senegal in 2016 during a friendly against Mexico. Despite earning six caps in total, he had not featured for the national team since that match. His recall comes on the back of strong performances at club level this season, where he has contributed four assists in ten appearances for Sochaux.
The midfielder will now join preparations for Senegal’s upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, starting with the match against Congo on November 13, followed by the fixture against Eswatini on November 17. His inclusion adds depth and experience to the squad ahead of these important encounters.
