Senegal defender Nobel Mendy set for Hull City after agreement with Rayo Vallecano

Hull City have reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano to sign Senegal international Nobel Mendy, with the Championship club moving to secure one of the Spanish side’s emerging defensive talents.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is worth €20 million, with additional bonuses included in the agreement. The transfer marks another significant step in the 21-year-old defender’s rapidly developing career after an impressive campaign in Spain.

Hull City’s interest follows Mendy’s performances last season, which convinced the English club to pursue a move for the centre-back.

The agreement also benefits Real Betis despite the club not being directly involved in the negotiations. Thanks to clauses included in Mendy’s previous transfer, the La Liga side are expected to receive €4 million from the deal.

For Rayo Vallecano, the transfer represents a substantial financial return.

The Spanish club completed Mendy’s permanent signing at the beginning of June for €3.5 million, before agreeing to sell the defender for a significantly higher fee only a short time later. His contract with Rayo was due to run until 2030.

The move underlines the rapid rise of the Senegalese international, whose performances have attracted growing attention.

Last season, Mendy featured in 28 matches across all competitions and contributed two goals from defence. His consistent displays helped establish him as one of the club’s promising young players and ultimately sparked interest from Hull City.

The Guédiawaye-born defender is currently valued at €7.5 million, but Hull City have agreed to pay considerably more to secure his services, reflecting the confidence they have in his long-term potential.

With an agreement now in place between the two clubs, Mendy is expected to continue his career in English football, while Rayo Vallecano secure a significant profit and Real Betis also benefit financially through the sell-on clauses attached to the player’s previous transfer.
