Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has spoken out against the ongoing detention of Senegalese fans in Morocco following the turbulent final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Senegal and Morocco.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sarr condemned what he described as an unfair and unjust situation, emphasizing that the supporters had done nothing more than cheer passionately for their national team.
“Thirty days in detention for supporters whose only crime was to passionately support their team. We strongly denounce this injustice and demand their release. Full support for our compatriots,” Sarr wrote.
The Senegalese international has consistently shown solidarity with the fans of the Lions of Teranga, calling on authorities to rectify the situation and allow the supporters to return home.
As per reports, the trial of the arrested fans has been postponed, prolonging their ordeal and sparking concern among both local and international observers. Sarr’s public statement adds to growing calls for the swift resolution of the matter, highlighting the need for fair treatment of fans who were simply demonstrating their love for the national team.
This latest intervention by a high-profile footballer underscores the wider debate around fan safety and justice in the aftermath of the controversial tournament final.
