Senegal Ligue 1: Diambars and Stade de Mbour Seize the Top in Week 18
The 18th matchday of the Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro brought significant changes at the top of the table, as clubs from the coastal town of Mbour stole the spotlight. Diambars FC and Stade de Mbour both recorded crucial wins over the weekend to take joint control of the title race, overtaking previous leaders Niarry Tally (NGB).
Diambars, who kicked off the round, produced a solid performance to defeat Olympique de Ngor 2-0. With NGB failing to break down Guédiawaye FC in a goalless draw, Diambars’ win was enough to dislodge them from the top of the standings.
In a fiercely contested local derby, Stade de Mbour edged Mbour Petite Côte 1-0, asserting dominance in a rivalry that carries weight far beyond the pitch in the football-mad city. The result sees Stade continue their upward trajectory in what has been a standout campaign for the team.
Elsewhere, Jaraaf of Dakar secured a narrow 1-0 win over defending champions AS Pikine. That result compounded Pikine’s recent struggles, pushing them deeper into relegation trouble, now sitting just above bottom-placed Port — who suffered a 2-1 defeat to Linguère in Saint-Louis.
AS Douanes, one of the league’s most consistent performers this season, were in fine form again, dispatching Suneor 3-1 to keep their hopes of a strong finish alive. Meanwhile, Casa Sports were held to a 1-1 draw by US Ouakam at home, in a result that does little for either side’s ambitions.
Despite fewer goals than the previous matchday (13 compared to 17), the round was not short on drama or consequences. With just a handful of games left in the season, the title race, relegation battle, and mid-table positioning remain finely poised.
