Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro: Key Clashes on Day 17 as Teams Battle for Survival and Glory

By BBC Sport
Senegal, April 19, 2014

The 17th day of the Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro kicks off this Saturday with a series of thrilling encounters, as teams continue their pursuit of glory and survival. Leading the charge are Jaraaf, the league leaders since day 11, who will face Linguère de Saint-Louis (7th), a team fighting to secure its place in the top flight. The day will also feature other exciting fixtures, including AS Pikine (2nd) taking on Touré Kunda de Mbour (4th), and Union Sportive de Ouakam (3rd) hosting Suneor de Diourbel (9th).

Jaraaf will be looking to extend their impressive form as they visit Linguère de Saint-Louis, who sit mid-table with 20 points and are desperately fighting to avoid relegation. Linguère’s survival hopes hinge on a strong performance against the league leaders, while Jaraaf will look to maintain their grip on the top spot.

In a battle for second place, AS Pikine will be hoping to bounce back from a recent loss as they visit Touré Kunda de Mbour, who are coming off a tough defeat to Jaraaf. AS Pikine remains undefeated at home and will be keen to defend their strong position in the league.

Meanwhile, Union Sportive de Ouakam, who have been in excellent form, will look to continue their push for a top-three finish as they host Suneor de Diourbel. Suneor, who are currently sitting mid-table, will need to find their best form to challenge the high-flying Ouakamois, who have been in superb shape recently.

In Kolda, Casa Sports of Ziguinchor (12th) will face DUC (10th) in a clash of two teams looking to bounce back from defeats in the previous round. Casa Sports will hope to recover from their loss to Port, while DUC will be eager to return to winning ways after falling short against Pikine.

The final match of the weekend will see OL Ngor, who are struggling this season, face off against Stade de Mbour. OL Ngor has been in a difficult situation this year and will need a big performance to stay in the hunt for survival.

The 17th matchday will conclude on Tuesday with a couple of intriguing matches. Yeggo, currently at the bottom of the table, will face Le Port, while Diambars, looking to bounce back after a series of disappointing results, will meet Niarry Tally, who have been in strong form recently.

With the stakes high at both ends of the table, Day 17 of the Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro promises to be a thrilling round of action as teams battle for survival, top positions, and pride.
