Senegal Ligue 1 2014–2015 Season Finally Kicks Off
After months of delays due to structural, logistical, and scheduling concerns, the 2014–2015 Senegalese football season officially begins this Saturday, November 6, 2014. Fourteen clubs will compete in a single-group format to dethrone reigning champions AS Pikine, who stunned everyone last season with a historic league and cup double.
A National Derby to Open the Season
The curtain-raiser will be played at the newly renovated Demba Diop Stadium in Dakar, where Jaraaf Dakar, now coached by former national team boss Amara Traoré, will clash with Niarry Tally Grand Dakar (NGB), led by another seasoned tactician, Lamine Dieng. The match promises to be an intense capital-city derby, a true showcase to launch the campaign.
The Demba Diop Stadium, a historic ground, now boasts a modern pitch, resurfaced stands, and renovated changing rooms, thanks to a €200 million overhaul, symbolizing the country’s commitment to enhancing its football infrastructure.
