Seny Dieng is set to leave Middlesbrough on loan after months without competitive action, with Feyenoord preparing to bring the Senegalese goalkeeper to the Netherlands for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old has not featured for the Championship club since December 2024 and is now expected to complete a temporary move to Rotterdam.

According to Sky Sport, Feyenoord have agreed to take Dieng on loan, with the Dutch side covering his wages. The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Dieng’s departure follows an uncertain period at Middlesbrough. Earlier in the transfer window, he was close to joining Hull City, who are currently third in the Championship, but talks collapsed after the two parties failed to agree on salary terms.

This time, however, the move is expected to be completed, bringing an end to his spell on Teesside, at least for now.

The Senegal international, who has nine caps and was part of the Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad in 2021, joined Middlesbrough from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of €2.5 million.

His time at the club has been interrupted by injury, and he has not played since undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon.

Feyenoord are seeking reinforcements in goal following the departure of Justin Bijlow, who left the club for Genoa earlier in the transfer window.

The Rotterdam side are currently second in the Eredivisie but are coming off a heavy 3-0 defeat by PSV Eindhoven on Sunday and have already been eliminated from the Europa League.

Dieng is expected to compete with German goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther, who is 30, for a place in the starting line-up.

While there is no guarantee of immediate first-team football, the move is viewed as an opportunity for Dieng to revive his career at a club competing at the top end of a major European league.

For Feyenoord, the loan provides experience and depth during the second half of the season. For Dieng, it offers a chance to return to action after a long absence and to re-establish himself following a challenging period marked by injury and limited opportunities.

The final details of the agreement are expected to be completed in the coming hours, with the goalkeeper’s move seen as a fresh start at a crucial stage of the campaign.
