Goalkeeper killed in Senegal team bus crash after Playoff match
A Senegalese football club has been plunged into mourning after a fatal road accident claimed the life of one of its goalkeepers and left several others seriously injured while returning from a playoff match.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 29 March 2026, as the Gadiaga team, based in Bakel, travelled back from Kaolack following their National 2 championship playoff fixture against TP Diamono.
The collision took place on National Route 1, between the towns of Balla and Goudiry, when the vehicle carrying the squad struck a truck that had been parked on the road.
The force of the crash proved fatal for the club’s second-choice goalkeeper, who died at the scene. Several other members of the travelling delegation sustained injuries, with some reported to be in serious condition.

The injured were transported to medical facilities in Tambacounda, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities have since launched an investigation to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the collision.
