Senegalese striker Malick Mbaye has completed a permanent move from FC Metz to Belgian top-flight side Zulte-Waregem, ending his two-year spell with the French club.
The 21-year-old has signed a contract running until June 2028, with the transfer reportedly agreed for a fee of around €200,000.
The deal was officially confirmed by Zulte-Waregem, who will now look to integrate the forward into their squad as the season progresses.
Mbaye joined Metz at the start of 2023 from Senegalese academy Génération Foot, arriving shortly after winning the African Nations Championship with Senegal.
Despite high expectations, he was unable to secure a regular place in the first team. Across all competitions, he made 16 senior appearances for the Lorraine club.
In search of more consistent game time, Mbaye was loaned to Amiens during the second half of the 2024–2025 season.
The move proved more productive, with the striker delivering five goals and three assists in 12 Ligue 2 matches, offering a glimpse of his potential at senior level.
However, upon returning to Metz, his opportunities remained limited. Although he featured on occasion in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
With competition for places high, the club ultimately decided to allow him to leave on a permanent basis.
The transfer to Zulte-Waregem represents a new chapter for Mbaye, who will be aiming to revive his career in Belgium’s top division.
The long-term contract reflects the Belgian club’s confidence in his ability to develop and contribute over the coming seasons.
For Metz, the move brings an end to Mbaye’s time in France, while Zulte-Waregem gain a young striker with experience in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
As he settles into his new surroundings, attention will turn to whether Mbaye can translate his promise into consistent performances and goals in Belgian football.
