Senegal Ligue 1: Jaraaf Miss Chance to Lead as Yeggo Stuns Touré Kunda
By BBC Sport Africa
Jaraaf of Dakar missed a key opportunity to claim top spot in the Senegalese Ligue 1 Pro Orange table after being held to a goalless draw by struggling Olympique de Ngor on Saturday.
The Medina-based “Green-Whites”, long-time heavyweights in Senegalese football, entered the 19th matchday tied on points with league leaders AS Pikine. However, despite being favourites, they failed to break down a shaky Ngor side, dropping two crucial points in the title race.
With both sides level at 33 points, AS Pikine retain their lead on goal difference (+13 compared to Jaraaf’s +11). Pikine now have the chance to reclaim clear first place on Sunday, when they travel 600 kilometres south to face Casa Sports in Kolda. The match is expected to be high-stakes, with pressure mounting as the season nears its climax.
Saturday’s other result delivered the biggest surprise of the day. Basement side Yeggo of Sicap shocked ASC Touré Kunda of Mbour with a 2-1 victory—their second win of the season. The result comes just days after the dismissal of head coach Mbaye Badji, suggesting a possible turning point for the league’s bottom club.
In contrast, Touré Kunda’s poor form continues to worry supporters, with no wins in their last three outings—two draws followed by this latest defeat. Once in the mix for a top-half finish, the Mbour-based side now find themselves stalling at a crucial phase of the season.
The 19th round of Senegalese Ligue 1 action wraps up on Sunday with five remaining fixtures that could further shake up the standings at both ends of the table.
