SENEGAL: PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP POSTPONED AGAIN
Senegalese football fans will have to wait even longer for the return of domestic action. The start of the Senegalese professional football championship has been postponed once again, as announced by Saër Seck, president of the Senegalese Professional Football League (LSFP).
“We are waiting for the implementation of the new licensing system established by FIFA,” Saër Seck explained on a local radio station.
Several factors are behind this latest delay:
Security concerns: With the 15th Francophonie Summit set to take place in Dakar, local police forces—essential for matchday security—will be otherwise occupied.
Stadium unavailability: The Demba Diop Stadium, a key venue, is currently unavailable.
Originally set to begin on November 15th, the league’s kickoff was first delayed to November 29th due to Senegal’s involvement in AFCON 2015 qualifiers. Now, the championship is tentatively expected to resume on the weekend of December 6th–7th, according to local media sources.
Senegal’s footballing community continues to await a definitive launch date.
