Senegal FA given formal payment ultimatum over Pape Bouna Thiaw claim

Pape Bouna Thiaw has formally demanded that the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) pay him 423,820,300 CFA francs in outstanding contractual sums, escalating a growing financial dispute in Senegalese football.

Through his legal representatives, the coach has issued the FSF with a formal letter of notice seeking settlement of all money he says remains due under his employment contract.

The claim covers several categories of unpaid amounts accumulated during his time in the role. These include outstanding salaries, performance bonuses and victory bonuses that were not paid, as well as reimbursement for personal expenses he incurred while carrying out official duties.

The total claimed by Thiaw is 423,820,300 CFA francs, with the former international seeking to resolve all of the alleged debts in a single settlement. His lawyers’ letter places the full value of the financial dispute before the federation and represents a significant escalation in the disagreement.

Thiaw chose to deliver the notice through a bailiff, a formal legal procedure that puts the FSF under pressure to respond. The move is understood to be the final amicable stage before the matter could proceed to legal action before the relevant authorities.

The Senegalese federation now has a legally defined period in which to settle the debt. Failure to do so could expose it to further proceedings and a more serious legal dispute.

The case centres on the obligations arising from Thiaw’s contract and does not concern a new sporting decision or competition issue. Instead, it relates to payments connected with his work, including salary, bonuses and expenses incurred in the performance of his official responsibilities.

By instructing his advisers to send a formal notice, Thiaw has moved beyond an informal request for payment. The letter records the amount being claimed and gives the FSF an opportunity to resolve the matter before proceedings are launched before the competent bodies.

The dispute adds to pressure around the financial management of Senegalese football, although the source of the claim is specifically Thiaw’s contract and the accumulated sums he says remain unpaid.
