The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) is reportedly considering disciplinary measures against midfielder Pape Gueye following his public comments after the Teranga Lions’ dramatic elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Gueye announced that he would step away from international duty as long as the current technical team remains in charge, a decision that has reportedly caused anger among officials within the federation.

The Villarreal midfielder made the announcement shortly after Senegal’s heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32.

Senegal appeared on course for qualification after establishing a 2-0 lead, but Belgium staged a late comeback before sealing victory in extra time.

Following the defeat, Gueye expressed his frustration with the situation surrounding the national team, stating that he would not return to the squad while the current coaching staff remains in place.

The midfielder’s comments have sparked controversy within Senegalese football circles, with federation officials unhappy about the manner in which he addressed his concerns publicly.

Reports indicate that the FSF is now examining possible disciplinary action against the player.

Gueye’s decision comes amid growing scrutiny of head coach Pape Thiaw and his management of the team following the World Cup exit.

The coach’s substitutions during the Belgium defeat, particularly after Senegal surrendered their two-goal advantage, have attracted criticism from supporters and observers.

The midfielder had also raised concerns after being substituted during the match against Belgium despite feeling physically capable of continuing, though he acknowledged that tactical decisions ultimately belonged to the coaching staff.

With Senegal preparing for future international assignments, the situation between Gueye and the federation could become a major talking point as officials decide how to respond to the player’s statement.
