AFCON 2015 – SENEGAL’S PAPY DJILOBODJI: “NO ROOM FOR RELAXATION AGAINST BOTSWANA”
Already assured of a place in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal is not taking their foot off the gas. As they prepare to face already-eliminated Botswana this Wednesday at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar, defender Papy Djilobodji insists the Lions of Teranga are focused on finishing strong.
“As professionals, we know we can’t relax. This match against Botswana will be approached like the previous ones,” said the Nantes centre-back.
With qualification secured, the stakes may appear lower — but not for Djilobodji and his teammates, who are eager to reward their fans with one last solid performance in the qualifiers.
“Victory is always important, especially in front of our home crowd. And we’re going to focus on finishing on a high note; it will be a way for us to thank all the people who supported us throughout the AFCON qualifiers.”
Senegal, led by coach Alain Giresse, currently sits second in Group G behind Tunisia but has the chance to end the campaign level on points or potentially ahead, depending on the outcome of the other final-day fixture.
Group G Standings (Before Final Round):
Tunisia – 11 pts (qualified)
Senegal – 10 pts (qualified)
Egypt – 6 pts
Botswana – 1 pt (eliminated)
Senegal will look to continue their unbeaten momentum and head into Equatorial Guinea 2015 brimming with confidence.
