Senegal defender Adama Boiro relishing West Ham challenge

Adama Boiro says he is relishing the challenge at West Ham United after completing a season-long loan move from Athletic Club, with the Championship side holding an option to make the transfer permanent.

The 24-year-old left-back, born in Senegal but moved to Spain at a young age, arrives at the London club with a clear understanding of the task ahead and believes his mentality, work ethic and determination can help West Ham achieve their target of returning to the Premier League.

“I like the challenge that’s in front of us here,” Boiro told West Ham’s website.

“This is a club with ambition and an objective to get promoted, and I think my mentality, my desire and my hard work will help my team-mates and the club achieve that.”

Champions League experience

Boiro joins West Ham after establishing himself at Athletic Club, where he made 45 appearances for the Basque side.

His experience extends beyond domestic football, having featured six times in the Champions League last season, giving him valuable exposure at the highest level of European competition.

That experience is expected to add quality and depth to West Ham’s defensive options as they prepare for the demands of a promotion campaign.

The move also gives Boiro an opportunity to adapt to English football while competing for regular first-team opportunities under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

Ninth summer arrival

The defender becomes West Ham’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window as the club continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Boiro follows Venezuela midfielder Keiber Lamadrid, Dutch defender Joel Veltman, Israel winger Manor Solomon and Belgium midfielder Arne Engels through the door.

Suriname striker Joel Piroe, England Under-19s midfielder Divine Mukasa, Norway Under-21s winger Edvin Austbo and Brazilian defender Morato have also joined the club.

With West Ham targeting promotion, Boiro’s arrival adds another player with top-level European experience to a squad being built for an immediate return to the Premier League.
