Dame Ndoye Announces Shock Retirement from International Football at 29
In a surprise move that has stunned Senegalese football fans, Dame Ndoye, 29, has announced his retirement from international football, according to Senegalese daily Stades. The decision comes just days after the publication of Senegal’s squad list for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burundi — a list from which the striker was absent.
While no official link has been made between his omission and his decision to retire, Stades reports that Ndoye personally informed head coach Aliou Cissé of his decision to step away from the national team.
The former Lokomotiv Moscow forward, who had a solid half-season with Hull City despite the club’s relegation to the English Championship, earned 26 caps for the Teranga Lions, scoring 8 goals.
His early retirement brings an unexpected end to a promising international career.
