The Confederation of African Football’s Disciplinary Board has hit Senegal coach Pape Bouna Thiaw with a heavy sanction following violent scenes around the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.
The board ruled that Thiaw’s behaviour on the touchline breached key principles of fair play and integrity and brought the game into disrepute, leading to a suspension of five official CAF matches.
He was also fined 100,000 US dollars, a significant financial blow that underlines how seriously CAF viewed his actions.
Thiaw’s punishment sits within a wider set of sanctions against the Senegalese federation, its players and supporters, who were cited for unsporting conduct and misconduct in the stands.
Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye and winger Ismaila Sarr each received two‑match bans for their behaviour towards the referee during the ill‑tempered final.
The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football was fined a total of 615,000 US dollars for crowd trouble, repeated unsporting conduct by players and staff, and a high number of yellow cards.
