Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has sadly lost his father just days after a moment of national celebration following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations success in Morocco.

Koulibaly’s father passed away in France, where he had been residing on Monday, January 26, 2026, casting a shadow over what had been a period of joy and pride for both the player and the nation.

The rock-solid defender has yet to comment of the passing of his beloved father, but the football world has offered condolences and messages of support to the former Napoli and Chelsea star.

Koulibaly has been a cornerstone of Senegalese football for more than a decade. Born in France, he made the decisive choice in 2015 to represent Senegal at international level, a decision that has since defined his career and legacy.

Over the years, he has grown into a leader both on and off the pitch, earning the captain’s armband and becoming a symbol of resilience, commitment and national pride.

His influence was once again evident during Senegal’s triumphant 2025 AFCON campaign, where his leadership and experience played a key role in guiding the Lions of Teranga to continental glory.

As Senegal celebrates its latest African title, the nation now rallies around one of its most respected figures, offering sympathy and solidarity to Koulibaly and his family as he navigates this deeply painful moment.
