SENEGAL: ARE WE MOVING TOWARDS A CAMEROONIAN SCENARIO?

The Senegalese Football Federation’s general assembly is scheduled for August 24, 2013, according to Victor Ciss, the general secretary of the federation. This decision was reached during the executive committee meeting. Originally set for August 31, the date was adjusted to allow the newly elected team sufficient time to prepare for the assembly, considering the proximity of Senegal’s match against Uganda on September 7-8.

Although some sources have suggested that Morocco is the preferred location for the Lions’ meeting, Victor Ciss states that nothing is definitive on this matter.

The assembly has already raised concerns about a potential scenario similar to Cameroon, where candidates allegedly imposed by the state faced disapproval. The existing differences between the current federal office, led by Me Augustin Senghor, and the Senegalese government have become apparent. Crises involving Minister of Sports Mbagnick Ndiaye and even Prime Minister Abdoul Mbaye with President Senghor and his team have been ongoing for over a year.

The question of whether Me Senghor will run for re-election remains uncertain. However, it is clear that he is not the state’s candidate for this general assembly.
