As we previously mentioned, the uncertain socio-political situation in Guinea raised concerns about the Senegal-Angola match scheduled for March 23. However, Me Augustin Senghor, the president of the Senegalese football federation, has now confirmed that the match will proceed in Conakry, Guinea.
“The choice of Conakry has been made and is final; we have also informed it,” he stated.
Yesterday, FSF spokesperson Ndoffène Fall reassured about security in Guinea, stating, “Life has resumed in Conakry. We have crossed the whole city, but we don’t feel any problem. It’s true that on Sunday and Monday, there were some excesses, but everything was back to normal.”
Senegal’s alternative plan was to play against Angola in Morocco on the third day of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Due to the one-year suspension of Stade Léopold Sedar Senghor by CAF following incidents in the Senegal-Côte d’Ivoire match on October 13, Senegal lacks a stadium meeting FIFA standards to host international matches.
