The Director of Senegal’s top competition, Souleymane Boun Daouda Diop, announced on Monday in Dakar that Alain Giresse, the coach of the Lions, has received five out of the six months of salary owed to him by the State of Senegal. The sum amounts to 75 million FCFA, considering that the French coach earns 15 million FCFA monthly as the head of the team.
According to the representative of the Senegalese Minister of Sports, the outstanding amount for the last month of Giresse’s contract will be settled no later than June 30. This information aligns with the previously mentioned 90 million FCFA figure reported by Africa Top Sports, which highlighted the salary arrears since the signing of Giresse’s contract on January 12, 2013.
Initially hesitant to address the issue and not disrupt the players’ focus on important matches, Giresse sought clarification on formal defects in his contract, leading to the subsequent payment of the salary arrears. With only the June salary pending, it is expected to be settled by the end of the month
