As in the previous season, the budget allocated to Senegalese sporting disciplines participating in international competitions in 2014 remains unchanged. The Minister of Sports and Community Life confirmed that a total of 900 million FCFA will be distributed among the federations meeting the necessary criteria to benefit from this funding. This announcement was made during the meeting of the steering committee of the Senegalese National Olympic Sports Committee (CNOSS) on Friday evening.
Although the federations have expressed needs amounting to approximately 4.5 billion FCFA, the available resources do not allow for such a significant financial allocation to all applicant federations, as stated by the minister. Consequently, only around twenty disciplines will be selected to represent Senegal in competitions across Africa and worldwide this year.
Football, with the national team embarking on the qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, and basketball, which will participate in the men’s world championship in Spain, will receive priority funding as usual.
