Senegal:Casa Sports striker Pape Sémou Sané recalls controversial red card incident

Casa Sports forward Pape Sémou Sané has described the circumstances surrounding a controversial red card that left a lasting impression on his early career, saying he was sent off “without even asking for my side of the story”.

The striker, who joined the Ziguinchor-based club during the 2024/2025 season, has begun to establish himself as an important attacking option, while reflecting on the experiences that have shaped his development.

In an interview with DS Sports, Sané spoke about his journey from local football in southern Senegal to his current role at Casa Sports.

Originally from Ziguinchor, he started his career in the regional championship, representing AJF after earlier involvement in Bignona.

His early breakthrough came at the Jules François Bocandé Municipal Stadium, where he scored his first brace against Cap Skirring.

That performance marked a significant step in his progression, helping to build confidence and recognition at a local level.

Sané explained that his development has also been influenced by observing players at the highest level of the game.

He cited Swedish striker Victor Gyökeres as a key source of inspiration, pointing to his finishing ability, composure and determination in front of goal.

According to the player, the decision was not linked to a foul committed during play, but followed an intervention by the opposing coach, who accused him of striking another player.

“Without even asking for my side of the story, the referee sent me off,” Sané said.

He suggested that his influence on the match may have contributed to the situation, explaining that he believed he had been singled out because he posed a tactical threat to the opposition.

The decision had immediate consequences for his team.

Reduced to ten players, they were forced to continue the match under difficult circumstances and were eventually eliminated on penalties.

According to Sané, he avoids distractions such as nightclubs, preferring to spend time with his family in Casamance.
