Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has voiced strong opposition to the potential sale of teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, declaring he would be “offended” if the club let him go.
The 19-year-old English international, who has Ghanaian heritage, has emerged as a key figure at United, showing immense promise despite injuries that have hindered his progress.
His rapid rise has reportedly prompted contract negotiations, with Mainoo seeking improved terms on his current deal, which has two-and-a-half years remaining.
Mainoo’s growing significance to the team has made him a subject of discussion among fans and pundits.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes highlighted the youngster’s potential but emphasized the importance of addressing his fitness to unlock his full capabilities.
“The one thing with Mainoo is he hasn’t had a lot of football this season,” Scholes said. “He needs to get into those last 15-20 minutes of games feeling fresh and still able to play.”
Comparing Mainoo to another young talent, Alejandro Garnacho, Scholes added: “I wouldn’t be afraid or worried if they sold Garnacho, but Mainoo? I’d be offended by that.”
