Sekhukhune United to appoint Cedric Kaze as new coach

South African outfit Sekhukhune United are close to appointing former Kaizer Chief and Burundian tactician Cedric Kaze as their new coach.

The highly-rated coach has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge of Babina Noko following the club’s decision to part ways with Eric Tinkler in April.

Sekhukhune ended the campaign without a permanent head coach and have since been searching for a suitable replacement capable of building on the club’s recent progress in the South African top flight.

Kaze’s stock has risen significantly following his impressive work with Kaizer Chiefs during the recently concluded season. The Burundian coach played a key role in helping Amakhosi secure a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership, a feat that ultimately highlighted his credentials as one of the most respected tacticians in the league.

Ironically, Tinkler’s departure from Sekhukhune United came after he failed to guide the club to a third-place finish—the very position Kaze successfully achieved with Kaizer Chiefs. That achievement has reportedly strengthened Sekhukhune’s determination to bring the former Chiefs coach on board as they seek to establish themselves among the league’s elite clubs.

Sekhukhune’s management has built a reputation for targeting coaches with proven track records and strong reputations within African football circles. Kaze fits that profile perfectly, having earned widespread praise for his tactical discipline, player management skills, and ability to get results under pressure.

According to reports first published by DailySports, negotiations between Kaze and Sekhukhune United have progressed positively, with both parties moving closer to reaching a final agreement. The club views him as the ideal candidate to lead their ambitions both domestically and in continental competitions.

Should the deal be finalized, Kaze will inherit a squad with considerable potential and the expectation of challenging for top positions in the Betway Premiership. His appointment would also signal Sekhukhune United’s intent to remain competitive and continue their upward trajectory in South African football.

An official announcement is expected in the coming weeks as the club prepares for the new season, with Kaze appearing increasingly likely to be the man entrusted with guiding Babina Noko into their next chapter.
