Sebelebele says Pirates players must ‘work for the badge’

Orlando Pirates defender Kamogelo Sebelebele says players must repay the sacrifices made by supporters after being named Man of the Match in Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Durban City.

The 24-year-old helped the Buccaneers secure the win at the Orlando Amstel Arena and reflected on the responsibility that comes with wearing the club’s famous black and white shirt.

Sebelebele joined Orlando Pirates in July 2025 and has quickly established himself as a versatile option for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. Although primarily a right-back, he has shown a willingness to play in different positions when required.

He started on the wing against Durban City and said adapting to the role was part of his responsibility as a player.

“I am happy with the win, it was not an easy game. Against Durban City, it is always an important game for us and now we need points, so I am happy with the performance,” Sebelebele told SuperSport TV.

“Obviously, I was playing as a winger, I was still adjusting gradually, but as a player, any position that the coach puts you in, you play.

“Everyone knows that when you play for Pirates, there is no young player, when we get onto the pitch, we all put in effort, we fight, there is no child.”

Sebelebele said the expectations at Orlando Pirates extend beyond performances and results, because supporters make personal sacrifices to follow the team.

“And when you play for Pirates, you have to work for the badge because all these people [fans] use their last money to support us, so we have to make them happy with wins,” he said.

His arrival at the club fulfilled an ambition he had held before being given the opportunity to represent Orlando Pirates.

“Everyone wishes to play for Orlando Pirates, so I was also wishing for this moment and when I got a chance, every game I make sure that I give my 100% effort,” he added.

“It is not everyone who gets a chance to play for Orlando Pirates, so I am the chosen one.”

Sebelebele’s ability to operate in several positions has made him an important member of Ouaddou’s squad. His latest performance came as Pirates claimed a significant result against Durban City while looking to collect points.
