The Congolese Federation of Football Association (FECOFA) on Thursday, May 23, 2024, announced the contract extension of national team head coach Sebastien Desabre.
This joyful news comes after careful consideration and collaboration of various institutions, resulting in a five-year extension.
Desabre, the French coach, has proven his capability in leading the Leopards after a remarkable performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire earlier this year.
DR Congo finished fourth in the tournament after losing on penalty shootouts to South Africa in the third-place playoff despite dominating the match.
As a result, his contract has been extended until May 2029 to continue his efforts in rebuilding the Congolese national teams.
FECOFA, under the guidance of its President of the standardization committee, Dieudonné Sambi Nsele-Lutu, expressed their gratitude to all those who played a role in securing this contract extension.
Desabre’s focus will be on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team will face Senegal on June 6 and Togo on June 9 in the 3rd and 4th round of World Cup qualifiers.
