Sébastien Desabre Returns to the Dugout as Head Coach of Angola’s Recreativo Libolo
French coach Sébastien Desabre has made his return to African club football, taking charge of Recreativo do Libolo, the reigning champions of Angola. Desabre, 38, has signed a two-year deal with the option of a one-year extension, marking another chapter in his well-travelled managerial career across the African continent.
The former Espérance de Tunis and Coton Sport Garoua manager had been without a club since parting ways with the Tunisian giants, but now takes the helm at one of Angola’s most successful sides. The move sees him coaching in a fourth African country, having previously led clubs in Ivory Coast (ASEC Mimosas), Cameroon, and Tunisia.
Desabre has already joined up with his new squad, currently in Lisbon, Portugal, for a pre-season training camp. His immediate task is preparing Recreativo Libolo for their campaign in the CAF Champions League, where they will face Sanga Balende of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the preliminary round. The first leg is scheduled for the weekend of February 13–15, with the return leg two weeks later.
The Frenchman replaces Miller Gomes, who guided the club to domestic success but has stepped down to pursue UEFA Level III coaching qualifications in Scotland, as confirmed by AngolaFoot.
With a reputation for developing talent and achieving results in demanding environments, Desabre’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by Recreativo Libolo to build on their recent successes and make a mark on the continental stage.
As the Angolan side sets its sights on Champions League progress, all eyes will be on Desabre to see if he can replicate his past achievements and elevate Libolo to new heights in African club football.
