Leyton Orient stunned Exeter City with a dominant 6-2 victory at St James Park, securing a crucial three points in League One.
English-Ghanaian midfielder Sean Clare played a pivotal role, scoring a stunning long-range effort in the 14th minute to put Orient 3-0 up.
The visitors got off to a flying start with Azeem Abdulai netting twice inside the first seven minutes before Clare’s strike extended their lead. Dilan Markanday added a fourth in the 34th minute, capping off a breathtaking first half for Orient.
Exeter attempted a second-half comeback through Millenic Alli’s quickfire brace, but Abdulai completed his hat-trick in the 64th minute to restore Orient’s control. Jamie Donley wrapped up the rout in the 78th minute, finishing a well-worked move.
Clare, who lasted 71 minutes, was instrumental in Orient’s midfield, dictating play and showcasing his attacking prowess. The victory narrows Exeter’s superior head-to-head record, with Orient now claiming five wins against the Grecians’ nine.
With this emphatic win, Orient climbs further up the League One table, gaining momentum for the season’s final stretch.
