Craig Levein was sacked as the manager of the Scotland national football team on Monday, and the decision took immediate effect. The Scottish Football Association made the announcement, and Billy Stark, the current coach of the under-21s, will take over the reins of the national team.
Levein’s position had been in jeopardy for several weeks, with disappointing results in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, including draws against Serbia and Macedonia, as well as a defeat to Wales. In his 12 games managed, Levein secured three victories against Liechtenstein twice and Lithuania in the qualifying rounds for Euro 2012. Despite his contract running until 2014, Levein is expected to receive compensation of £700,000.
